conscientious objector
Пацифист. Тот, кто использует право, узаконенное в пункте о совести (conscience clause), которое освобождает людей с высокими моральными принципами от определённых требований. Такой пункт был включён в закон об обязательных прививках (the Compulsory Vaccination Act) от 1898 г., который освобождал от этих прививок тех, кто по религиозным или моральным соображениям возражает против этой практики. Со времён Первой мировой войны термин conscientious objector стал означать человека, который освобождается от военной службы по причине полного отрицания насилия любого свойства. Таких людей называли COs, или презрительно conchies.
